Ombudsperson’s information regarding the request of Dehari’s family for the permission of the presence of physicians appointed by them, in the course of their son’s, A.D. autopsy.

In late hours of yesterday evening, Ombudsperson Institution (OI) received the request of Dehari’s family, related to the presence of physicians appointed by the family, in the course of the autopsy of their son A.D., who was serving his pre-trial imprisonment in Detention Centre in Prizren.

Family request has been addressed to the Ombudsperson due to fact that within OI, as a special structure, functions the National Preventive Mechanism against torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment (NPM), whose mandate is to conduct inspections of pleases where people deprived of their liberty serve their imprisonment, in compliance with the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).

During the morning today, Ombudsperson’s representatives have contacted Basic Prosecution in Prizren related to the request of Dehari’s family and obtained confirmation that the family will be granted with the permission for the presence of the physicians appointed by the family during the autopsy of their son A.D., which is going to happen tomorrow. The Ombudsperson welcomed Prosecutor’s decision, in having consideration for the family request.

Ombudsperson deeply regrets for lost life of A.D. and at the same time calls upon maturity and self-restraint from the hasty, incompetent and contradictory comments. Furthermore, the Ombudsperson calls upon media and anyone else, that in one or another way have the opportunity to disclose to the public different opinions, have due respect for family’s grief for lost life of their beloved son and allow that a professional and independent investigation reveal the truth on the lost life of A.D
